An accommodation charge of traditional Japanese inns consists of the basic lodging charge and the service charge. The basic lodging charge for one night includes two meals, dinner and breakfast. The amount of the service charge is equivalent to 10 to 15 % of the basic lodging charge. In addition, 5% of the consumption tax should be imposed on the accommodation charge. In the Unzen hot spring, an additional 150 yen bathing tax per person is required.

If your arrival time will be later than the scheduled time, please inform the hotel of your delay beforehand. It is generally expected that you arrive at the hotel before dinnertime (usually around 6 p.m.). The Contractual Conditions of hotels provides as follows: In case where a guest (guests) had not informed his/her arrival time beforehand and when he/she has not arrived until 8 p.m. on the day booked or two hours after the scheduled arrival time in case the arrival time had been informed previously, this course of act shall constitute a matter of cancellation. If you are caught in a traffic jam and it is very likely your arrival time will be later than the time mentioned above, please inform the hotel of your situation and where you are at the time. The hotel personnel will be able to predict your arrival time since he/she should know better on a traffic condition of the area.

Meals

room For a family or a group of around 4 people, generally dinner will be served in their rooms. This is a typical room service of the traditional Japanese inns and hotels in this area. In most cases, however, tour groups are asked to come to a dining/party room or a restaurant of the hotel. The dinnertime is held generally between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., however, if necessary, you can request the dinnertime by telling so to your room clerk. A full-course Japanese food will be served for a dinner with a variety of seasonal delicacies. You can enjoy delicious dishes with various flavorings unique to Unzen. If requested, specially assorted sashimi, "nabe-ryori" (pot dish cooked at the table), or other local specialty of fresh foodstuff can be served with extra charges. (In requesting such special menu, please order in advance preferably by the day before or at the time you book the hotel.)

Please tell your room clerk about your breakfast time for the next day when the clerk comes to clean up the table. You may be able to choose either Japanese style breakfast or western style breakfast.

Recently, many hotels serve breakfast in the dining room (party room or restaurant in some cases). Japanese foods are most commonly served for breakfast, but an increasing number of hotels offer western style breakfasts. In large hotels, all-you-can-eat breakfast buffets are becoming more common.

Yukata (cotton kimono robe)

Yukata The traditional Japanese inns offer Yukata robes as free rental for guests' comfort. The Yukata robe is for you to wear as pajamas, however, you can go for a walk wearing it both inside and outside the inns. A jacket called Hanten or Nagagi will be offered also as outer garment of the Yukata for cold seasons.

For both men and women, you should wrap the right side of the Yukata over the body, then overlap it with the left side. This is a fundamental rule in wearing the yukata.
